What Can You Determine From These Ivy League Rankings? As you presumably know, Ivy League schools have incredibly great reputations. All Ivies are positioned in the main 16 National Universities by US News.In terms of numerical rankings, there isn't a lot of qualification among Ivy League schools, however there are some eminent contrasts. In most Ivy League rankings, Princeton, Harvard, and Yale are at the top. They're the topIvy League schools and a portion of the very bestcolleges in the US. They're similar to top-level non-Ivy League schools, for example, Stanford and MIT.There's likely some discussion about which schools make the following level out of Ivy League schools, at the same time, in view of my rankings, I would put Columbia, Penn, and Brown in the second tier.Their scholarly notorieties aren't exactly as built up as those of the primary level schools, and all in all they're marginally less particular. Tantamount non-Ivy League schools incorporate Duke and Caltech. The finaltier of Ivy League schools would be Dartmouth and Cornell.Cornell has the most elevated acknowledgment pace of all Ivy League foundations (yet it still just concedes 13% of its candidates). Non-Ivy League schools that are practically identical to Dartmouth and Cornell regarding quality incorporate Northwestern and Vanderbilt. Recollect that rankings are emotional, yet they can uncover how universities are seen by managers, graduate schools, and the general public.Even however Harvard and Cornell are both inconceivably esteemed schools where you can get a world-class training and become some portion of an effective graduated class organize, the general agreement is that Harvard is the better school. Matt Damon went to Harvard, however he left somewhat right on time to do the acting thing. Step by step instructions to Decide Which Ivy League School Is Right for You A significant number of the Ivy League schools are incredibly comparable. They’re non-public schools of comparable sizes with superb scholarly notorieties. What's more, they are totally situated in a similar locale of the US, they all have huge enrichments, and they all will in general offer liberal monetary guide. In the event that you’re keen on going to an Ivy, you’ll need to do broad exploration to figure out which Ivy League school is directly for you.You can utilize school discoverers, search sites, manuals, and other positioning records to attempt to locate the best Ivy for you. Here are four components to remember as you research the Ivy League: #1: Setting Perhaps the greatest contrast between Ivy League schools is their settings.Figure out whether you need to go to class in a urban, rural, or ruralarea. The urban Ivy League schools incorporate Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Brown, and the University of Pennsylvania. Notwithstanding, they’re all in urban areas of totally different sorts and sizes. As far as urban conditions, Columbia is in New York City-the most thickly populated city in the US-while UPenn is arranged in Philadelphia, another huge city. Paradoxically, Brown is in the little city of Providence, Rhode Island, offering a significantly more curbed condition. Likewise, Harvard is in a school town called Cambridge, which is found only outside of Boston. What's more, Yale is situated in New Haven, Connecticut, which has a populace of only 130,000 contrasted and the generally 8.4 million individuals in NYC. Princeton is the main Ivy League school in a rural setting. It's increasingly independent and the encompassing zone is calmer than those of different Ivies. Normally, there are far less amusement alternatives and social attractions than you would discover in an enormous city (however more than you'd find in a provincial territory). Princeton is just an hour from Philadelphia and 90 minutes from NYC. Cornell and Dartmouth offer understudies a country environment, where understudies are encircled commonly and there's hardly any going on in the town inconsequential to the school. Provincial universities will in general give to a greater extent a network air, however there are normally less employments and temporary positions in the region. An understudy who'd truly appreciate being in the urban condition of Columbia probably won't appreciate the country setting of Dartmouth, and the other way around. Make certain to ponder which sort of setting you'd feel generally great in. #2: Academic Programs, Majors, and Requirements While all Ivy League schools are solid in the humanities, sociologies, and STEM, each offers various projects, general training prerequisites, majors, and focuses. PC must deliver a video signal that a screen can show. This might be taken care of by hardware on the motherboard, yet is generally dealt with by a video card in one of the computer’s development spaces; regularly the opening is an extraordinary one committed to video use, for example, an AGP space (Accelerated Graphics Port). Level Panel Monitor A level board show ordinarily utilizes a LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen to show yield from the PC. The LCD comprises of a few slim layers that captivate the light going through them. The polarization of oneâ layer, containing long flimsy atoms called fluid precious stones, can be controlled electronically at every pixel, blocking differing measures of the light to make a pixel lighter or darker. Different sorts of level board innovation exist, (for example, plasma shows) yet LCDs are most regularly utilized in PCs, particularly PCs. More seasoned LCDs had moderate reaction times and low complexity, however dynamic network LCD screens have a straightforward slight film transistor (TFT) controlling every pixel, so reaction, differentiation, and review point are significantly better. Essay Analysis of “The Great Gatsby” Plot

Just as the majority of works of literature, â€Å"The Great Gatsby† consists of several key sections, which are the following: the initial point, the conflict situation, complication of the plot, climax, suspense and the end. Let’s have a quick look at all of them. The Initial Situation Nick Carraway (the one who is our narrator) gets back from the WWI and makes a decision to rent a house in the small town West Egg, which is located on the Long Island. Guess, who precisely turns out to be his neighbors living across the bay? Cousin Daisy and her husband Tom. Jay Gatsby that Nick is living next door to is a newcomer in the town, who has a tough wallet and throws the biggest parties every week. While having fun at Gatsby’s house, the guests never miss a chance to snub him for how rich he is, while drinking his booze. Do you think it’s a good background for the conflict? You’re right. Conflict Maybe you can call me? Gatsby is longing for something he cannot reach to: Daisy and the upper class of the USA. Tom is also willing to have something he can’t have: a wife and a lover, both of whom do not know about each other. Nick desires something that he is 100% not going to get: make every crazy individual he knows less crazy. Complication Jay Gatsby, here goes James Gatz! Tom Buchanan dislikes Gatsby the very moment they meet, even before he gets to know of why and how is Daisy weeping over amazing Gatsby’s shirts. He performs a thorough investigation over Gatsby’s life. It turns out that this â€Å"newbie† is James Gatz, a poor man who had succeeded to earn everything he has from bootlegging liquor and gambling. Climax The Love Triangle Gatsby and Tom definitely have a tense. At the same time, they realize who gets an opportunity to take control over Daisy. And oh-my-God, Tom is the winner! He decides to seal the victory by letting them to go home together. But on their way back, Tom and Nick, who drive in same car, find out that Myrtle (Tom’s lover) died because she was knocked by a speeding yellow car, in which, according to its description, were Daisy and Gatsby. It seems that a light-speed rise to the top may come along with the casualties. Suspense When Everything Goes Wrong Gatsby spends every night simply watching the house of Daisy. He’s worried that Tom may hurt her in some way. Personally I am not ready to judge or blame Tom: he broke the nose of his lover just for saying the name of his beloved one. What will happen to our fearless anti-hero? Wrapping up When the story is over Tom and Daisy run away. Jordan and Nick break up. Gatsby followed the light. What you end with is the dismal funeral of the protagonist. Among those who come to say goodbye to Gatsby one may see his father, Nick and a stranger with owl eyes who’s been amazed by the books of Gatsby. This is when Nick makes his conclusive statement: â€Å"we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past. This was an example of the Great Gatsby essay, written by the writers of our custom writing service. Cynognathus Facts and Figures

Name: Cynognathus (Greek for dog jaw); pronounced sigh-NOG-nah-thus Habitat: Woodlands of South America, South Africa, and Antarctica Historical Period : Middle Triassic (245-230 million years ago) Size and Weight: About three feet long and 10-15 pounds Diet: Meat Distinguishing Characteristics: Dog-like appearance; possible hair and warm-blooded metabolism About Cynognathus One of the most fascinating of all prehistoric creatures, Cynognathus may have been the most mammalian of all the so-called mammal-like reptiles (technically known as therapsids) of the middle  Triassic period. Technically classified as a cynodont, or dog-toothed, therapsid, Cynognathus was a fast, fierce predator, much like a smaller, sleeker version of a modern wolf. Clearly it thrived in its evolutionary niche, since its remains have been discovered on no less than three continents, Africa, South America and Antarctica (which were all part of the giant landmass Pangea during the early Mesozoic Era). Given its wide distribution, you may be surprised to learn that the genus Cynognathus includes only one valid species, C. crateronotus, named by the English paleontologist Harry Seeley in 1895. However, in the century since its discovery, this therapsid has been known by no less than eight different genus names: besides Cynognathus, paleontologists have also referred to Cistecynodon, Cynidiognathus, Cynogomphius, Lycaenognathus, Lycochampsa, Nythosaurus and Karoomys! Further complicating matters (or simplifying them, depending on your perspective), Cynognathus is the only identified member of its taxonomic family, the cynognathidae. The most interesting thing about Cynognathus is that it possessed many features normally associated with the first prehistoric mammals (which evolved from therapsids tens of millions of years later, during the late Triassic period). Paleontologists believe Cynognathus sported a thick coat of hair and may have given birth to live young (rather than laying eggs, like most reptiles); we know for a fact that it possessed a very mammal-like diaphragm, which enabled it to breathe more efficiently. Most startlingly, evidence points to Cynognathus having a warm-blooded, mammalian metabolism, quite unlike most of the cold-blooded reptiles of its day.

Geography of Jamaica Essay - 869 Words

Geography of Jamaica Christopher Columbus came upon Jamaica as his fleet sailed into St. Ann’s Bay on his second voyage of discovery to the New World in 1494. He described Jamaica as, â€Å"the fairest island eyes have beheld; mountainous and the land seems to touch the sky....and full of valleys and fields and plains† (Roberts, 141). Although founded by a Spaniard, Jamaica was eventually sold to England. Today, Jamaica is the largest of the English speaking West Indian islands. Lizards are plentiful, but snakes are scarce and none are poisonous. Insects fall into the usual classifications: beautiful and harmless and pestiferous [Roberts, 144]. Miniver Cheevy free essay sample

1102 Explication Essay Miniver Cheevy In Robinson’s poem, Miniver Cheevy is a depressed dreamer who blames everyone for his low social status. Miniver Cheevy is full of self-pity. He feels as if his life would be fulfilled if only he had been born in the days of the old. Miniver weeps that he was born in in this time. I believe it may of started out as innocent day dreaming, but became an excuse for his life not turning out as planned induced by alcohol and depression. Miniver will not live in the reality of present time. He spends his days hopelessly dreaming of â€Å"The Thebes and Camelot. † Although, he is a failure he will not take control of his own fate and blame himself. The fact that he was not born in the old days is what he dwells on and blames for his outcome. He escapes reality with these pitiful dreams that can never come true. We will write a custom essay sample on Miniver Cheevy or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Miniver feels as if getting lost in a drunken fantasy is better than taking control of his life in reality. The A-B-A-B rhyme scheme of Miniver Cheevy gives the poem a very masculine tone. The rhythm keeps the reader interested, and keeps the reader guessing the next line. Robinson was very descriptive of Miniver’s fantasy, but managed to keep the rhyming constant throughout the whole poem. I can’t help but to feel sorry for Miniver, but I also feel as if he should grow up and take responsibility for his life. Miniver is very much in love with the old days of knights. I believe that is an easy excuse for an alcoholic who will not take charge of his own life. Robinson compares Miniver’s life to what he wants it to be in every section. While he is disgusted with how he is now, then it compares how he thinks it would be in the old days, and everything is perfect. The tone seams to go back and forth between happy and sad. He was very distant from reality how he stated â€Å"Miniver loved the Medici†, but Miniver had never even seen one. Miniver wishes he could wear a suit of armor I can tell from the poem Miniver is a loner. Based on his description I feel as if he would be just as unhappy in the old days. Miniver is a depressed alcoholic who I don’t believe would be happy in any setting. Miniver doesn’t wish to be wealthy or even well off, but instead he wishes to have been born in a time he’s never even experienced. That makes me believe he is just saying he wishes he could have been a knight in shining armor, because that seamed easier and more exciting than his life where he wears a khaki suit. Miniver is a delusional and weak individual. If he was born a knight perhaps he would have then wished he was something else as another cop out. If you spend your whole life thinking what if, you will never find happiness.

Time in the Great Gatsby free essay sample

People of the Old Money are a tight-knit group; their connections with other rich and powerful families have been created in the past and maintained for a long time, so they possess a certain amount of grace, taste and social subtlety that other classes lack. These connections, and other factors, are what make this social class powerful, and therefore they are able to stay safe and comfortable behind their money and status. In the final chapters, Daisy commits an unpardonable crime by running Myrtle down while driving Gatsbys car. Myrtle dies, but Daisy, because of her money and status, escapes without accepting any responsibility. Gatsby represents New Money. Such nouveau-riche has gained wealth in the post-war economic boom of the 20s, and in Gatsbys case, through illegal activities. However, even with the acquisition of immense wealth, Fitzgerald shows it is impossible for a person born into a lower class to move up the hierarchy. We will write a custom essay sample on Time in the Great Gatsby or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Many of these people are ostentatious and lack the social graces and taste of the Old Money class. This factor is obvious in Gatsbys monstrous mansion, his yellow Rolls Royce and his weekly parties. In fact, the whole of West Egg is described as vulgar (Daisy), if seen through the eyes of the more dignified and reserved residents of East Egg. When the Buchannans attend one of Gatsbys parties, Daisy is appalled by West Egg, stating that it had raw vigour that chafed under the old euphemisms. (pg. 103) Despite his wealth, it is apparent that Gatsby will never fully belong to the Old Money class. This is explained when Tom, Mr Sloane and a lady visit Gatsbys house. When the lady includes Gatsby in the invitation to her house for supper, he completely misses the subtle reluctance in her offer and accepts. The fact that the offer was just out of politeness can be seen when Tom states, Doesnt he know she doesn’t want him? (pg. 100) Furthermore, Gatsby does not have any social connections with other aristocratic people, and this is shown best when he distances himself from his guests. Gatsby can never really escape his humble origins. He was essentially herded†¦ along a short cut from nothing to nothing (pg. 03) Nothing symbolises his poverty-stricken boyhood, but also foreshadows that eventually, he will end up with nothing. He has played host to a multitude of people at his extravagant parties, but dies friendless and almost alone. In the America of the 1920s, many people acquired wealth, but that did not guarantee acceptance into the ranks of those who were considered Old Money. As a novel about wealth, Fitzgerald makes a distinct s tatement that Gatsby, a representative of the New Money group, does not have the innate qualities of people such as Tom and Daisy. Thus, it is impossible for these classes to integrate completely.

Dont Blame the Americans for this One!

Dont Blame the Americans for this One! Dont Blame the Americans for this One! Dont Blame the Americans for this One! By Maeve Maddox Ever since the 17th century, our English cousins have been blaming Americans for distorting, weakening, or vulgarizing the English language. For many, the term Americanism next to a word in the dictionary is a warning to avoid using it. Well, a recent press release from the Old Country puts paid to the idea that the English language is more respected in its land of origin than it is in the New World. Heres the headline in the Telegraph: Councils ban elitist and discriminatory Latin phrases In a story that sounds more like an April Fools Day joke than a bona fide news story, we are informed that several English City Councils have forbidden their employees to use specific Latin words and phrases. What are some of these dreadful, incomprehensible, elitist horrors? Here are some examples: bona fide, e.g., ad lib, etc., i.e., per se, quid pro quo, vice versa, via, status quo If any of these elitist expressions are unfamiliar to you, do something outrageous: look them up in an English dictionary. (You may also wish to browse Daniels compendium of Latin expressions.) What is the reasoning behind this official purge of common Latin expressions in English? According to the Bournemouth Council, Not everyone knows Latin. Many readers do not have English as their first language so using Latin can be particularly difficult. I agree that not everyone knows Latin. Sadly, its no longer part of the general curriculum. But words and expressions of Latin origin are part of the English language. Some of these Latin borrowings have been more digested than others, but surely status quo is as English as spaghetti. George Orwell warned us this would happen. In his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the English of the future is called Newspeak. It is the only language in the world whose vocabulary gets smaller every year One of the characters admires the way every new edition of the dictionary is smaller than the one before it: Its a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. Hipaa, How it may affect me in a doctor office Essay

Hipaa, How it may affect me in a doctor office - Essay Example In case of a job change I will be able to benefit from the act as I will be able to reduce the exclusion period in group health plan and health insurance coverage. This is a positive affect that the act will have on me. As an employee in a doctor’s office, HIPAA would affect me in numerous ways from the second part of the HIPAA. First and the foremost, there would be increased pressure in order to ensure the safety of the health care data. Personal responsibility needs to be taken in order to ensure that all the rules and regulations are followed in order to the safeguard the information. Failure to do so will attract serious penalties. There will be special training on the use and understanding of the new systems. As the patient information is accessed by many, the responsibility to protect that information becomes even greater. Hence, I will need to undergo training not just on how to use the new systems but also on the various aspects of the act itself. This will help to have a clear understanding of the act and hence act within the rules and regulations defined in the act. Also training is required in using the equipments that will be in place as a result of the HIPAA act (Iyer et al., 2006). It is also the responsibility of me and my colleagues to explain the provisions and the various aspects of the act to the patients. The complexities of the act must be clearly communicated to the patients so that they can make full use of it. Also a result of the act, there will be continuous monitoring and supervision of my work. I will be monitored to see if all the procedure laid out by the hospital is being followed or not. Also I must comply with the personnel and security management systems in the hospital. Osborne, H. (2002). In Other Words†¦How the New HIPAA Regulations Affect Healthcare Communication. Selling Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Selling - Essay Example Of course trust level is the thing which enhances the every relationship bonding but when we talk about selling it values a lot – as selling relationship are business type in nature sort of. The best salesperson never compromise on its reputation or trust and always tried its best to deliver at time. And this trust of a salesman highly depends on the customer and salesman relationship – that is understand the customer need, his level of satisfaction and having honest dealing with him. The simplest example I want to give here for my above statement is the relationship between the doctor and a sales person of a pharmaceutical corporation. Doctor never having its personal affiliation with the company whose medicine he usually does prescribe actually it is his relationship with the representative of that company who push him to recommend its medicine - in point of fact the key of selling moves around personal business relationship. The best salesman always follows the strat egy which is do business with persons not with companies. A part from all above, customer entertainment which a salesman providing him also groomed that relationship – that is having outdoor eating and other recreational activities you know giving your customer casual environment. Selling is a sort of profession which very much focused relationship ethics and you now tough times which we say ups and downs are the part of every relation. If both ends have a healthy relation then these tough tome (like any delay in scheduled delivery of stock etc) can be easily tackled. Networking, another very potential term in career of salesman. How I tell you this. Basically it increases your social relations. It also happens that buyer recommend you to others thus give a boost to salesman business. But it is better to network always rather if you want some type of business dealing. The approach to do networking always expands and strengthens the relationship in improved

To what extent does success in china depend on businesses Essay Example for Free

To what extent does success in china depend on businesses Essay Success for a business in a large market such as china can be a very difficult thing to achieve; there are many factors that can affect the success or failure of a business that decides to merge into Chinas markets. Most people would assume that due to the very large population of china (roughly 1. 35 billion/l ,363,496,913) operating a business there would not be a problem, this however is incorrect, Just because there is lots of people there doesnt for a minute make it any easier to set u-p and run a successful business. The main point I would say that is essential to success in china s adaptation. If a business is able to adapt well to its surroundings, i. e. the ability to easily change its products and services to match the needs of the local consumer. Just because a company has been successful in other large countries with big markets, does not mean that they have what it takes to succeed everywhere. Being able to change a product range, or the way a service is provided to the consumer needs to be carried out in order to do well in China. Take for example Starbucks coffee, what Starbucks did right in China is a perfect example of how food brands can ucceed despite rising labour and real estate costs, and increased competition on the Mainland. Instead of trying to force onto the market the same products that work in the U. S, such as whip cream-covered frozen coffee concoctions, Starbucks developed flavours (such as green tea-flavoured coffee drinks) that appeal to local tastes. This change in the products that Starbucks offer is the reason why people in china bought into the Starbucks chain, by seeing products that they would normally drink, and having drinks made to their own needs and wants Starbucks was able to cater recisely to what they wanted by doing research into what would work well. As well as the products, Starbucks also changed the way in which the consumers actually got their drinks. Rather than pushing take-out orders, which account for the majority of American sales and is how they made such a big empire, Starbucks adapted to local consumer wants and promoted dine-in service. Making their chain stores very traditional and fitting with the local culture. Surprisingly Starbucks charges as much as 50% more for some of its products in China than in the U. S. , the U. K. and India, but yet it is still a huge success, this is because the business catered well for the needs and adapted. Carrying a Starbucks cup is seen as a status symbol, a way to demonstrate sophistication and the capability to afford a personal luxury for the up- and-coming middle class in China. This links into the brand recognition that Starbucks has created for itself and shows how they carefully targeted their products at the new middle class, it is estimated that its more than 300 million, already larger han the entire population of the United States. This middle class is about 25% of the total Chinese population and as Starbucks has such a recognisable brand people are more liable to visit the store. However, that being said some large companies have tried to adapt for the Chinese markets, and failed despite their efforts.
